A Seroepidemiological Investigation of Toxocariasis in Forestry Workers in Bulgaria

Determination of professional activities, which are connected with higher risk toxocariasis, is very important for well-timed diagnosis and prevention. That why our research aimed to investigate the spread toxocariasis in people, whose activities related forests. Thirty-three people included study – eight employees Forest Research Institute at Bulgarian Academy Sciences, Sofia, 25 forestry workers from three different locations South Bulgaria. The specific parasitological performed ELISA Western blot. Presence anti-Toxocara IgG antibodies was established eleven workers. This reveals high seroprevalence among this profession 33.3%. Moreover, examination 15 sera (11 positive 4 borderline results toxocariasis) blot showed presence two more antigen bands 11 samples (33.3%). These show that theforest could be defined as factor development toxocariasis.
